Body for Life Day 12

Posted in 10000 Steps a Day Journal, Body For Life, Breakfast, Diet, Dinner, Exercise, Lunch on 08/01/2013 by Ganns Deen

Today, I was supposed to do cardio. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I wasn’t able to do it. I’m trying to suffice by doing 10,000 steps today. I think I’ll go to High Street after work to walk around, and perhaps pick up something at Healthy Options. I’m curious about almond butter.

I assure you that I will do my weights tomorrow.

For the past week, I’ve been making my kids’ breakfasts. My daughter Nicki is very picky with her food, and if it’s not chicken, she probably won’t eat it. Today, I experimented and popped a couple of peas in there. I hope the teacher pressures her to eat it. Hahaha.

Nathan, on the other hand, can eat a ton of food and not gain a pound. He’s lucky to have gotten his mom’s family body type, so he doesn’t put on weight that easily. However, both he and his sister aren’t making smart food choices. No, wait, let me rephrase that. I am not making smart food choices for my kids.

We’ve eliminated a lot of the junk food we normally buy, but the kids just don’t like vegetables, and the biscuits we do buy may be loaded with trans fats and other bad things. As I continue on this program, I hope my kids catch on and open their minds to healthier fare as well.

Breakfast: Two egg whites and fresh pineapples. (approx 159 calories)

Lunch: Steamed broccoli, one egg white, 2/3 cup quinoa, lettuce, kimchi. (approx 283 calories)

Dinner: Another Sandwich Guy sandwich, this one with toasted black bread, grilled chicken, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, and cucumbers (Approx 400 calories), plus a Jamba Juice Coldbuster (700 calories)

Race for Life results and on stress & binge-eating

Posted in 10000 Steps a Day Journal, Race For Life on 11/28/2008 by Ganns Deen

So the Race for Life results are in. I was 326th out of 755. 5K in 40:58, which was a little over my target of eight minutes a kilometer (it’s 8:12, to be exact). I chalk that up to the out-of-the-gate-running that I did, which was a mistake. Still, it’s a better performance than my initial run, when I came in 290th out of 330 runners. For that particular run, I did 8K in approximately an hour and nine minutes, for an 8:41/km clip.

I can’t believe it. I actually improved over the previous run? (Well, in fairness, it was only 5K, whilst the first run was 8K.) That’s such welcome news! I feel better!

Today at work, things were rough. I should’ve dealt with it with a walk, which I really really really wanted to do, but instead, I stayed at my Macky (my laptop) and worked through the stress. The end result: I barreled my way through five pieces of chocolate (thanks, Archie) and my leftover tuna, corn, and mushroom stir-fry. Not the best way to handle it. Worse, I had a (mayo-free) Whopper for dinner, sans fries, and a bottle of water. No one to blame for this binge other than myself. Plus, the walking wasn’t spectacular, as I tallied a little over 3,000 steps. Man, I gotta get moving again!

Tomorrow’s gonna be great: I’m going to do weights or run in the morning, then ensure the day is packed with a healthy diet and affirming activities, not the toxic workload I dealt with today. It’s going to be better because I’m going to rely on God for it.

10000 Steps (Nov 26 08)

Today was pretty bad: 3,891 steps. Blech.

Tomorrow’ll be much better. I always log in around 15,000 steps on Thursdays thanks to two free hours at the mall while waiting for Cathy’s PhD class to end.

10000 Steps (Nov 25 08)

Today, I just barely made the minimum. 10,052 steps by the end of the day. But that’s an improvement over my lazy half-hearted efforts the past week. I also did a pretty standup job of nutrition today, packing in a lot less carbs than I’m used to, and a heckuva lot more fiber. Yea for me!

11010 steps. What a cool ending number.

This morning, I get to run, which is cool because I haven’t run in almost two weeks. No rain, a fully-charged iPod Shuffle, and an awesome way to start a beautiful Sunday. Life doesn’t get better than this.

10000 Steps (Nov 14 08)

I’ve been getting lazy with my 10000 Steps a Day Journal, but that doesn’t mean I’ve stopped doing it. It just means I’ve been too lazy to post it.

Thursdays are good walking days because I have two hours to killĀ  before fetching Cathy at 9AM. So my total for yesterday was 14,827 steps. Purty cool.

Race For Life is in two weeks’ time! WOOT!

Took 18,622 steps today, thanks to three hours at Mall of Asia. Wow.
