Sign up for the Miracle Run!

Posted in The Runs! on 03/24/2009 by Ganns Deen

Miracle Run 2009There are days when I love my job, and there are days when I like my job.

This Sunday is one of the latter days, because I can’t join a run that I really wanted to join.

Men’s Health Philippines is sponsoring a charity race on March 29 called Miracle Run 2009. If they can sign up 1,000 runners who can finish the 10km race, they will donate PHP200,000 to the Tahanang Walang Hagdanan’s “Gulong Sa Pagsulong” Mobility Aid assistance program; they’ll buy wheelchairs for the differently abled. I can’t go because I work on Sundays and will never make it back in time for work. Besides, I love my job! 🙂

Please do sign up, though, because it’s for an amazing cause. You run to help those who can’t! The race starts 6:00am at the UP Diliman campus. Sign up at R.O.X. at Fort Bonifacio, the favorite stomping grounds of Metro Manila runners, or register on the Men’s Health Philippines website.

Back in the game

You know that when there are no regular posts on a fitness blog, something’s up. And you’d be right. Something was up. My weight!

After I hurt my knee running March 6 – that’s two weeks ago, man! – I was afraid to run, so I stopped for a while and decided to focus on the weight training as detailed in Body For Life. (I also asked the Spartan for assistance, and he’s developed a circuit training program for me as well. Thanks, Marc!)

Today, I decided to try again, so I ran a 4km run. I tried my best not to take it too hard, gunning instead for a consistent speed instead of an intense burn. I think I did okay – I averaged 6’48″/km and finished with a nice sweat. Driving back, I felt the sting of ammonia-laced sweat on my eyes, which is good. After two weeks of no running, I’m sure toxins accumulated enough, so that run definitely served to start oozing them out of my body.

Breakfast was a cup of macaroni soup with lots of shredded chicken breast. I just had a snack of a papaya slice, and lunch will be a chicken breast salad with a drizzle of Japanese vinaigrette from Dizon Farms.

We’re back in the game, baby! back online

… and the knee starts to hurt

Yesterday, I did another 5km, but barely.

Sometime around 2km, the back of my knee started to twinge, and by 4km, I was virtually limping the rest of the way.

Winners swallow the pain, though, so idiot that I am, I ran through it and finished my 5km goal. At the end of it, a most pleasant surprise: Tiger Woods congratulated me on my fastest mile!

I hope I didn’t injure myself.

A little demoralized

I have a confession to make.

I’ve ballooned. I’m now at 206 lbs.

I know what I did, and I know what I need to get back on track.

It’s just a little demoralizing, that’s all. All that progress in running, yet the weight seems to be stacking up.

I need to go back on Body For Life, STAT.

Methinks I may have to modify that year-end weight goal. *sniff*
