Praise is a great physical and spiritual workout

Posted in Exercise, Mini Victories on 11/30/2008 by ganns

Today, I joined four amazing worship leaders and participated in an anointed praise and worship session at Victory Greenhills, an awesome church in Greenhills that celebrated its first-year anniversary today. My particular song was Lincoln Brewster’s You Are Good, which is a wonderfully fast-paced praise song. Don’t know how well I did, but it was awesome, God’s presence was there, and I’m sure I burned a lot of calories with all the jumping and dancing. *grin*

I know that I made it this far because the confidence, self-control, and motivation does not come solely from within, but is fueled by my faith in God and myself that I can make this happen. When I sang earlier today, it was a joyous offering of praise in thanksgiving for the 20+ lbs I lost, and the more I will lose.

I weighed myself today. 204 lbs. Four pounds to go before I hit 200!

Race for Life results and on stress & binge-eating

So the Race for Life results are in. I was 326th out of 755. 5K in 40:58, which was a little over my target of eight minutes a kilometer (it’s 8:12, to be exact). I chalk that up to the out-of-the-gate-running that I did, which was a mistake. Still, it’s a better performance than my initial run, when I came in 290th out of 330 runners. For that particular run, I did 8K in approximately an hour and nine minutes, for an 8:41/km clip.

I can’t believe it. I actually improved over the previous run? (Well, in fairness, it was only 5K, whilst the first run was 8K.) That’s such welcome news! I feel better!

Today at work, things were rough. I should’ve dealt with it with a walk, which I really really really wanted to do, but instead, I stayed at my Macky (my laptop) and worked through the stress. The end result: I barreled my way through five pieces of chocolate (thanks, Archie) and my leftover tuna, corn, and mushroom stir-fry. Not the best way to handle it. Worse, I had a (mayo-free) Whopper for dinner, sans fries, and a bottle of water. No one to blame for this binge other than myself. Plus, the walking wasn’t spectacular, as I tallied a little over 3,000 steps. Man, I gotta get moving again!

Tomorrow’s gonna be great: I’m going to do weights or run in the morning, then ensure the day is packed with a healthy diet and affirming activities, not the toxic workload I dealt with today. It’s going to be better because I’m going to rely on God for it.

10000 Steps (Nov 26 08)

Today was pretty bad: 3,891 steps. Blech.

Tomorrow’ll be much better. I always log in around 15,000 steps on Thursdays thanks to two free hours at the mall while waiting for Cathy’s PhD class to end.

10000 Steps (Nov 25 08)

Today, I just barely made the minimum. 10,052 steps by the end of the day. But that’s an improvement over my lazy half-hearted efforts the past week. I also did a pretty standup job of nutrition today, packing in a lot less carbs than I’m used to, and a heckuva lot more fiber. Yea for me!

My hamstrings are porky

Posted in Exercise, Race For Life on 11/23/2008 by ganns

By all indications, the Race for Life fun run last Saturday was successful. More than 2,000 people showed up – not all on time, but whatever – to show their support for the Real Life Foundation, which was awesome.

What wasn’t awesome, however, was my time. There were two things going against me: 1) I didn’t prepare well enough for this race, running only once the week prior, and 2) I made a huge mistake and let myself get carried away by the thrill of the run, so I ran right away, an amateur’s mistake. I was winded by the end of the first 1.5 kilometers, and pretty much walked the rest of the way. Wrong. I won’t make that error again. Finished a little over 40 minutes, which was well below my target. Bad bad bad.

The next day, I woke up sore all over. My hamstrings, in particular, were exceptionally tight. My quads weren’t giving me sweet relief either, so right now, I feel like a Majestic Ham, except my body isn’t majestic at all. Argh.

Oh well. You fall off the fitness horse, you get back on. However do you expect to become a stud if you don’t do the runs?

One day to go!

Tomorrow’s Race for Life! More than 1,000 runners have signed up in solidarity to show their support for the Real Life Foundation and its scholars. This is so exciting!

I’m not as ready for Race for Life as I was for Run Against Pain because this week was just so bad. One day to run, the rest of the week was just weights because of this nasty weather. Plus the workweek was killer. And tomorrow evening is my grandmother’s 90th birthday party, so I have to prepare for that too. This week was just BAD. Luckily, it’s just five kilometers, and I’m not looking to break any records.

I hope to see some of you there tomorrow. Future Thin Guy’s second run. Woot!
